Washington's Dilemma: This Isn't a Recession, It's a Collapse Nothing in the public record since the year 2000 indicates that Larry Summers, Ben Bernanke, or Tim Geithner understood that we had been building a skyscraper of private sector debt in textbook blow-off style, since the deflation scare of 2001. Much has been said the last few decades about the Oil Curse. The idea that countries with a large petroleum inheritance actually devolve over time, failing to diversify their economies. The result is often a stagnant culture and a dysfunctional political structure. ... Another country that now looks quite arrested in its development is the United States. But not because of an Oil Curse. Rather, the United States appears to have finally succumbed to its multi-decade "advantage" via dollarization. In dollarization, the US Dollar has been the world's reserve currency, and the United States economy has "enjoyed" the freedom to borrow and print ad infinitum without the usual penalties ...
Do Russian supersonic cruise missiles make the US Navy obsolete? If Israel strkes Iran, we will find out, as the Iranians will strike back at the United States, the enabler of Israel's attack, by launching a Chinese-built version of the Russian Moskit 3M80 missile at American naval vessels in the Persian Gulf. If an aircraft carriers go to the bottom, the balance of world power will be radically altered. Otto von Bismarck got it right: the Russo-German relationship Assassinating people they don't like? That's what the U.S. does The U.S. Assassinates People All The Time! Col Wilkerson & Rachel Maddow Bill Bonner: Preparing for the new economy As we keep saying, inflation is no sure thing, at least not in the short-run. But Chris Mayer believes that "the problem with the deflation arguments long term, it seems to me, is that you are betting against a government's ability to destroy its own currency. Governments are seldom good at anything, but one thing they are undeniably good at is destroying their own currencies. The dollar has lost 95% or so of its value since 1913. That's a pretty darn good job."
ML Economist predicts exports will drive 10% GDP growth in Canada Yeah, we'll be selling all those two by fours required to fuel America's housing boom. Although its contents have never been made public, it would detail the overnight search for Dr Kelly. Incredibly, he created this file an hour before the scientist even left home. ...Most intriguingly, at 8am, half an hour before Dr Kelly's body was discovered under the tree, three officers in dark suits from MI5's Technical Assessment Unit were at his house [where they removed his] computers and the hard-disk containing the 40,000 words of the explosive book [about Iraq's non-existent weapons of mass destruction]. Montreal Economic Institute: Northern Waters – A realistic, sustainable and profitable plan to exploit Quebec’s blue gold i.e., a plan to sell water and more hydro power to the US. Canadian opposition to the war in Afghanistan continues to climb Most Brits want out of Afghanistan too Craig Murray: How the BBC handles an independent candidate for Parliament The local BBC are broadcasting a live TV debate between the "Four Main Candidates" - none of whom has anything interesting to say - on 22 July at 22.15. I am excluded lest I say something voters might actually care about. Like the need to end the war in Afghanistan, where our troops are dying to protect a government of corrupt warlords and heroin dealers, in the interests of the right of US companies to build oil and gas pipelines over Afghanistan from Central Asia.
I have of course been Ambassador to neighbouring Uzbekistan and know what I am talking about. Much better to exclude me therefore. Pretty clear, really, why Britain's state "End the war ... troops dying to protect warlords and heroin dealers ... the right of US companies to build pipelines ..." Does this guy have no idea what the ruling elite expect from an MP? As for being a former ambassador, sheeshe, having someone in parliament who speaks with authority is the last thing that's required, unless they're pushing the authorized line.
Jack Granatstein/Robert Smol on why Canadians prefer peace keeping to war Speaking for Canadians -- Not. ... the campaign to emancipate slaves that Quakers spearheaded in previous centuries has evolved into endless modern campaigns to aid and develop the Third World -- a practice that, as I have argued before, is a futile and dangerous exercise, whose long-term consequences conclude with the White man's extinction and the end of European civilization. Like many -- if not most -- of the philosophical and religious movements that originated in the West, Quakerism is a tonic in a homogeneous society, but becomes a toxin the moment that society becomes multiracial. Nature is not kind to egalitarians, and in the long run it has not materially rewarded Quakerism. Does this reflect God's disapproval? One thing most Quakers would agree on is that we should not be helping colored people in Iraq and Afghanistan by bombing them. Some, but not all. Being free of dogma Quakers beliefs come in many varieties. Membership of the meeting I was required to attend as a child included a successful manufacturer of armaments, who asserted the convenient belief that war is necessary to control population. In addition, there was conscientious objectors from WWII, a bible-thumping old testament fundamentalist, a very nice lady who shocked us all by becoming a Catholic, several red hot socialists, plus representatives of as many other points of view as there were other members. Perhaps the most consistent feature of the Quaker code is the belief in modesty. At the school I attended, chauffeured limos were not an uncommon sight when parents were in attendance, but the old chocholate quakers, including heirs to some of the greatest English fortunes, were notable for their beat-up self-drive cars. Fiat's electric Fiat Palio Weekend in production in Brazil; estimated cost $70,000 (U.S.) A 70,000-dollar electric vehicle is unlikely to be any better for the environment -- if 70,000 is what it actually costs to build, than a 25,000-dollar gas-engined vehicle. Anyhow, very few people could afford it. What people need are cars like these, which cost only five thousand dollars, travel at up to 50 kph and would serve in place of a gas-powered vehicle for 90%-plus of most people's travelling needs. If, for some urgent reason, you need to go to Mexico, consider a bus or rent a car. Silly government incentive to purchase electric cars Ontario to announce incentives for plug-in vehicles, up to $10K We cannot afford to buy electric cars so the government is going to give us ten grand. Free money? No everybody pay. Anyone buying a $70,000-dollar car gets the incentive! The theorist behind this prediction is Didier Sornette at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in Zurich, who has pioneered the study of market bubbles. Last year, he used his method for spotting bubbles to reveal that oil prices where dangerously inflated. The telltale sign of a bubble, he says, is a faster than exponential growth rate caused by a positive feedback mechanism that generates this nonlinear growth. Amnesty details Gaza 'war crimes' When the BBC says "Gaza war crimes" they mean "Israeli war crimes". And when the put 'war crimes' in quotes, you are to understand that this is simply a claim by some flakey trouble-making outfit. Otherwise, how to explain that neither the BBC nor Barak Obama, nor Gordo Brown, nor the sanctimonious Canadian pair of humbugs Ignatieff and Harper, etc., etc., failed to raise any objection at the time.

Strangely, a different version of the above Reuters report appears here ... So did Hijacked by Zionism alter the Reuters report, or did Reuters publish two stories making diametrically opposed claims at the same URL? The very fabric of society is breaking down around us Television, the economy, the police, the House of Commons, and, most recently, the press ... all revealed to be jam-packed with liars and bastards and graspers and bullies and turds. ... From a Brit, this seems like a pathetic self-pitying whinge. Nothing about Britian's enthusiastic role in creating millions of dead, maimed or displaced Iraqis, or ditto Afghans, about Britain's thriving arms trade with stinkers in Israel, Indonesia or anywhere else they have money to kill people with. Nothing about Britain's use of "intelligence" gathered through the use of torture. Just a moan about lying newspapers and crap TV. Pathetic. Only an idiot could have only just realized that the media are run by scum and composed of bunk. What is the real consumer price index? By ignoring housing prices, CPI massively understated inflation for years and the CPI is massively overstating inflation now. Thus, as both theoretical and practical matters, Greenspan and Bernanke blew it by failing to take housing prices into consideration. Israeli Co. uses micro-turbine as an electric vehicle range-extender: claims 60% efficiency This makes sense. Turbines running at constant speed have a very high efficiency, so in this application the claim of 60% eficiency is credible. With such a high efficiency, it makes sense to burn natural gas--an abundant energy source--rather than gasoline, since despite the low density, a relatively small tank of natural gas will take you a long way. OilWatch monthly report: July 2009 Russia won't link arms reduction agreement with Iran sanctions "There are no reasons to link these issues or count on Russia being more cooperative in toughening sanctions against Iran if there is progress in talks with the United States on further cuts in strategic offensive weapons," a [Russian Foreign Ministry] source said. See. The war in Afghanistan is working Japan's robots join ranks of the unemployed The BBC's hatchet job on 7/7 skeptics The viewer was clearly meant to link scepticism of the governments account of 7/7 with Nazism on the one hand, and quasi-religious insanity on the other, as well as the aggressive psychological intimidation characterised by the threatening letters. The implication being that, to question the governments statements on 7/7 is to ally oneself with such people, to become a dangerous social pariah. What wasnt mentioned was that 7/7 Ripple Effect is in fact rejected by J7, the July 7 Truth Campaign, the main organisation that affiliates those who question the governments account of the bombings. Their website contains a section entitled 7/7 Ripple Effect- a rebuttal and rejection in which MuadDib is strongly criticised for holding offensive anti-Muslim views as well as his wild claims to be the messiah. The page summarises; J7 are not in any way party to the making of the 7/7 Ripple Effect. We do not support the film, its producers, its unsubstantiated conjecture, or the sending of the film to relatives of victims or survivors. Why then did The Conspiracy Files, a programme with the veneer of investigative journalism, emphasise the work of a rogue lunatic as the main representation of the 7/7 conspiracy theorists position? The holocaust denier and the threatening letters were the other main points of identification with the 7/7 sceptics. Again, rogue extremists used to represent a position that for the main part encompasses law-abiding, peaceful and rational people who simply question the governments account of the bombings. It is not objective to characterise a movement by its lunatic fringe- otherwise we would regard all animal lovers as letter bombers, all Labour party members as Stalinists, all Tories as fascists, all Catholic priests as paedophiles. ... The programme reached its climax with the mad old man who uses the name MuadDib being hunted down and confronted, Roger Cook style, by the unseen Conspiracy Files reporter. Why are you bringing the British government into disrepute? he huffily demanded, to a silent response.
A peculiar question, especially now in the wake of the expenses scandal, and almost daily revelations about how the government lied to us on rendition and torture during the Bush/Blair years, not to mention the false WMD claims, and the growing awareness that the evidence on which the case to go to war against Iraq was based was fixed. The government doesnt need a beardy weirdy who thinks hes Jesus to bring it into disrepute, its already doing a splendid job by itself. And much more. An excellent critique of the BBC's pathetic exercise in lies, defamation, distortion and just general bollocks. Presumably, they had nothing better with which to make their case. But in that case, rather than destroying their own credibility, they would have done better to stick with sports, weather and the wonderful world of flying squirrels. 9/11 Truth at last. That is clear from the fact that the key players in Obama economic policy were the same persons responsible for creating the conditions of the financial disaster in the first place. The military policies in the new Administration are represented by the same persons responsible for past military misadventures. They are representing an outmoded paradigm that is in fatal decline. America could have a pretty good century, it seems to me, just by getting on with their own business rather than trying to rule the world. Instead they are in haste to destroy their manufacturing infrastructure, and engineering competence merely to enrich a few Wall Street shysters. The way they are headed, the U.S. will very soon be Agentina with rockets -- although whether the rockets will work is doubtful, since every ambitious young American -- people like Chelsea Clinton, for example, knows that Wall Street is the only place to be. The X marks a brand new track -- a new economy. What will it look like? Nobody knows. All we know is the current economy can't "recover" because it can't go back to where it was before the crash. The warning is rubbish. It is the same rubbish that has led to the globalization disaster. The rubbish is that you stick manufacturers in the west with costly environmental protection legislation, worker health and safety legislation and any other restrictions you like, and then you tell them, sure, take you capital, take your manufacturing plant, take your R&D, and your proprietary technology, and set up a plant in Asia where you can employ dirt-cheap labor without comparable regulation and then ship the products back home where the workers you just put out of a job will be glad to save a few bucks getting cheap badly made stuff from Asia* instead of buying decent stuff made by their own compatriots.
There is no way that a sane and responsible western government can implement costly environmental regulation without imposing countervailing tarrifs on imports from countries without comparable legislation. Moreover, the same is true of labor health and safety regulations and minimum wage laws. Any legislator who argues otherwise is a moron or a traitorous shill for globalized capital.
